Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon NV

Name: Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon
Vintage: NV
Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon
Winery: Penfolds Wines
Region: Australia > South Australia
Price: $77.41
SnoothRank: 4/5

fibo86's Rating: 4.5/5
fibo86's Review: brick red, perfumed berries and mocha, blackcurrent
rich berry, gamy, hint of chocolate still with enough tannin (fine tannin) to live another 10yrs.
I really was expecting this wine to have had it's day considering I don't have a great cellaring conditions and my boyfriends mother (after a request not to touch the cloth) grabbed the cloth the wine was wrapped in and the wine went flying over 6ft high luck enough it fell on the grass and it still came up as one of the best Cabernets I've had to date.

As posted on Snooth

Mahi Sauvignon Blanc & Boundary Farm (single vinyard) 2007

Name: Mahi Sauvignon Blanc & Boundary Farm (single vinyard)
Vintage: 2007
Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc
Winery: Mahi
Region: New Zealand > Marlborough
Price: $9.06
SnoothRank: 4/5

fibo86's Rating: 5/5
fibo86's Review: The Boundary Farm Sauvignon Blanc 2008.
Single vinyard, small handpicked hillside parcels whole cluster pressed and taken to French barriques where it's fermented with indigenous yeast.Left on lees for 10 months.
This wine was amazing it was different to most of the other NZ Sauvignon Blanc that I've tried (also the day I tried this Sauvignon Blanc I think I tasted close to 20-30 others) it had a great deal of complexity, fruity characters that you expect except more elegant more refined many layers and fabulous length, enough to stop myself and a collegue mid taste. I can't relay in this post just how lovely this wine actually is.
This is a show stopper.

As posted on Snooth

Prophet's Rock Pinot Noir, 2006, Central Otago Red Wine New Zealand Full Bodied Pinot Noir 2006

Name: Prophet's Rock Pinot Noir, 2006, Central Otago Red Wine New Zealand Full Bodied Pinot Noir
Vintage: 2006
Varietal: Pinot Noir
Winery: Prophet's Rock Vineyard
Region: New Zealand > Central Otago
Price: $29.17
SnoothRank: 4/5

fibo86's Rating: 4/5
fibo86's Review: Prophets rock vinyard 2004 Rocky Point Pinot Noir.
At first when I opened this wine it was jumping out of the bottle all I got though was leather and spice, upon tasting leather, spice and acid (so I left it to breath for a while) on second glance great berry character and spicey with some earth chucked in for good measure, quite complex nose.
Tasting
berry, plum and rich ripe dark cherry good acid and great length.

Needless to say this is another great example of Central Otago Pinot Noir still with a few years to go if you can help yourself?

As posted on Snooth

Peregrine "Pinot Noir" Central Otago 2007

Name: Peregrine "Pinot Noir" Central Otago
Vintage: 2007
Varietal: Pinot Noir
Winery: Peregrine Wines
Region: New Zealand > South Island > Otago
Price: $16.10
SnoothRank: 3.5/5

fibo86's Rating: 3.5/5
fibo86's Review: This particular wine from Peregrine is called Saddleback- Central Otago NZ
Garnet/ruby red hue
Violet and cherry, pensil shavings, leather(?)
Cherry, mushroom(?),earthy lots of length with fruity yet acidic finish.
I think with a bit more age this wine will become more elegant.

As posted on Snooth

Name: Domaine Borie de Maurel-Belle de Nuit
Vintage: 2007
Varietal: Granache; Organic
Winery: Domaine Borie de Maurel
Region: France > Languedoc-roussillon > Languedoc > Minervois
Price: $21.41
SnoothRank: 4/5

fibo86's Rating: 4/5
fibo86's Review: Granache,
unfiltered and no oak 14.5%
Purple/crimson hue
Amazing aroma almost like a powdery parfum with berries and boiled lollies, spice, liquorice, a touch of mint.
Small tannin presents, spicey yet light good lenght with a an obvious ability to gain some age.
also an organic venture.
If they keep producing wine like this then I can see great things from the 20yo vinyard.

As posted on Snooth

Kedem Concord Grape Juice N/A New York NV

Name: Kedem Concord Grape Juice N/A New York
Vintage: NV
Varietal: Concord
Winery: Kedem
Region: USA > New York
Price: $2.99
SnoothRank: 2/5

fibo86's Rating: 1.5/5
fibo86's Review: Ok, Kedem-premium-Cream red Concord.
A.B.V 9%
Royal Wine Corp, Bayonne, NJ-USA

Colour/ Clarity
Brown,Brick hue/ Opaque

Aroma
almost a sherry like aromor, musty, stewed berry, stewed prune, fruity, cordial, delicate mushroom and slight wet wool (mild smell of grannies hair spray) (although smelt this wine warm and could smell nothing but wet horse blanket, great deal of difference)

Flavor
Lots of residual sugar, quite fruity- ruhbarb, raspberry, blackberry, prune, chocolate (some earthy flavor that I can't quite grasp),raisin, Cream Sherry type finish quite long and slight delicate aniseed at the tail end.

In conclusion this is a wine for the sweet tooth,
I now can understand why it was used in cold duck, it would have made an interesting addition to a sparkling red instead of a traditional dosage.

As posted on Snooth

Scarborough Shiraz 2002

Name: Scarborough Shiraz
Vintage: 2002
Varietal: Syrah
Winery: Scarborough Wine
Region: South East Australia > New South Wales > Hunter Valley
Price: $14.75
SnoothRank: 3.5/5

fibo86's Rating: 3.5/5
fibo86's Review: Bursting out of the bottle before the top's off,Colour/ Clarity:Dark Crimson-Brick hue/ Bright,Bouquet:Strong pepper, eucalytus and honey lollies (mild), stewed plums, forest floor, violets, cinnamon and vanilla,Flavour:
This wine wasn't the beast the bouquet made it out to be.
Great spice and berries, with a bit of an earthy characteristic....Typical Hunter wine.Well intergrated tanins and quite juicy. With food or without

I really liked this wine and thought it would be a great wine to have with a steak or a meaty/mushroom winter casserole, even juicy enough to have on it's own.

Now wish I had a second bottle to try next year

As posted on Snooth

Cave de Tain L'Hermitage Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes 2003

Name: Cave de Tain L'Hermitage Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes
Vintage: 2003
Varietal:
Winery: tain't hermitage
Region: France > Rhône > Vin de pays des Collines Rhôdaniennes
Price: $9.05
SnoothRank: 2/5

fibo86's Rating: 1.5/5
fibo86's Review: Upon the pour the slight woft of blackberries and clove then an unfortunate stink of wet rusty metal (so a bit of time to air in the glass just in case....)
Colour/Clarity
Cherry with crimson hue, dull.
Bouquet
Lightens out to white pepper, tabbaco, clove and quite earthy not really able to smell much fruit.
Flavour
Dried prune, leathery,acidic and earthy
Not too sure about this one........ don't really like it. No balance, doesn't seem to have much structure with a rather long acidic end, or may be it's just all too new as I'm used to Australian wines. Not for me though.

As posted on Snooth

On the nose- berries melon and apricot
The palate- very delicate, strawberries, raspberry a bit of residual sugar, not a great deal of length but fairly well balanced.
Even to the point of quite morish. Although as a rose goes it's the most delicate I have come across yet.

As posted on Snooth
