Name: Felline Primitivo de Manduria Apulia
Vintage: 2006
Varietal: Primitivo
Winery: Felline
Region: Italy > Apulia
SnoothRank: 3/5

vindood's Rating: N/A
vindood's Review: Wonderfully scented nose of ripe red cherry, almond paste and minerals. Spicy flavors of red berries, tobacco and mint are complemented by a note of sweet raspberry liqueur. Bright acids give lift to the wine's berry and mineral notes. Delivers an uncanny combination of sweetness and energy, and finishes long and seamless. It's a delicate wine, one that has gained many times in complexity what it has lost in weight. Almeida likens it to `an aged person who has a lot of things to tell you.` Hazelnuts and walnuts, dried apricots and citrus fruits, honey, the list of descriptors goes on and on. `Aged in oak for 30 years and kept in-bottle for several months before release to market

As posted on Snooth

Full-bodied, with silky tannins and lots of dense fruit. Builds on the palate. Juicy and rich. Has more concentration than the average Brunello.
Marques de Murrieta Castillo Ygay Rioja Gran Reserva Especial 2000

Name: Marques de Murrieta Castillo Ygay Rioja Gran Reserva Especial
Vintage: 2000
Varietal: Tempranillo; Mazuelo; Grenache; Graciano
Winery: Bodegas Marqués de Murrieta
Region: Spain > Rioja > Rioja Alavesa
SnoothRank: 4/5

vindood's Rating: 4/5
vindood's Review: 93 points from Wine and Spirits, From Finca Ygay, one of the great estates of Rioja Alta, this wine is particularly concentrated due to April frosts, which reduced the crop to 60 percent of normal. The Gran Reserva Especial has historically been aged for decades at the bodega; this vintage, released after eight years, is still tight and closed. But even when it's first poured, the wine's sophistication shows in the firm mesh of the structure. It expands as it takes on air, developing the ease and give that makes this 2000 delicious to drink now, a spicy red for thick-cut lamb chops. 90 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, There are 8400 cases of the 2000 Gran Reserva Especial Castillo Ygay, a blend of 87% Tempranillo and 13% Mazuelo aged for 34 months in American oak barriques. Deep crimson-colored, it offers up an enticing perfume of cedar, pencil lead, earth notes, and black fruits. This leads to a supple-textured, layered wine with ample black cherry, spice, and blackberry flavors. The lengthy wine has excellent grip and enough structure to evolve for another 3-5 years. It should be at its peak from 2010 to 2022.

As posted on Snooth

Deep in color, with a hint of oxidation on the nose, this plays bracing acidity against moderate sweetness and smoky apricot flavors. Really engages the palate in an intellectual way. Fine, lingering finish. Needs food. Drink now through 2015.

As posted on Snooth
