Columbia Crest Gr. Estate Cabernet 2006

Name: Columbia Crest Gr. Estate Cabernet
Vintage: 2006
Varietal: Gr. Estate Cabernet
Winery: Columbia Crest Winery
Region: USA
Price: $12.99
SnoothRank: 3/5

stclairj's Rating: 3.5/5
stclairj's Review: A review on this is probably unnnecassary since there is so much information and reviews on this wine, but its always good to write out your notes...The nose on this is a little pungent for me. Not pungent as in a wine with VA, or a wine that is overly hot, but spicy as in the aroma of black pepper with the tingle of cinnamon. Behind the spicy nose, I find black cherry, plum, and green bell pepper, and a small amount of cedar. The mouthfeel is also slightly spicy, which I enjoy, especially in a Cab from WA. The tannins are present, but not harsh, and the wine itself is full bodied. On the palate I get mostly cherry and berry with minimal chocolate, spice, and oak. I think Ray (the winemaker) hit the nail on the head with the spiced cocoa finish, and for me it melts away into nice fruit. I think WS went a little overboard with an 89 on this wine. It is defnately solid, especially for the price, but it doesn't quite have enough on the palate for me to rate it this high. I would give an 87/100 maximum...

As posted on Snooth

Plan Pégau Sélectionné Par Laurence Féraud 2006

Name: Plan Pégau Sélectionné Par Laurence Féraud
Vintage: 2006
Varietal:
Winery: Sélectionné par Laurence Féraud
Region: France > Rhone Valley > Southern Rhône > Côtes-du-rhône
SnoothRank: 3/5

stclairj's Rating: 3.5/5
stclairj's Review: This wine was pretty tight before decanting, with an overwhelming nose of Black Licorice and petrol. After opening up, the nose revealed hints of vanilla, cherry, and cinnamon. The mouthfeel was very smooth, but slightly thin. The tannins were fairly minimal, mostly on the midpalate. While the nose was excellent, it was hard to pick out any fruit on the palate...again, slight cinnamon and cherry. The finish was very nice, with lingering spice and vanilla. I would give this an 86 or 87/100. Good buy for the price and varietals.

As posted on Snooth
