Name: Bodegas Castano Solanera
Vintage: 2005
Varietal: Mourvèdre
Winery: Bodegas Castaño
Region: Spain > Murcia > Yecla
Price: $13.44
SnoothRank: 3.5/5

kybecca's Rating: 4/5
kybecca's Review: 91 points and listed as a "Spanish Wine Bargain Under $20" by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.

90 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated purple. Smoky raspberry and cherry on the nose, with a sexy mocha quality adding complexity. Fleshy, round dark fruit liqueur flavors caress rather than pummel the palate. Gentle tannins arrive late to add structure but this is all about silky, juicy fruit." (Sept/Oct '07)

As posted on Snooth

Château Troplong-Mondot St.-Emilion 2005

Name: Château Troplong-Mondot St.-Emilion
Vintage: 2005
Varietal: Bordeaux Blend
Winery: Troplong-Mondot, Château
Region: France > Bordeaux > Libournais > St. Émilion
Price: $257.00
SnoothRank: 4.5/5

kybecca's Rating: 5/5
kybecca's Review: We haven't had the pleasure of tasting this wine yet, but here is Parker's review:
"This estate was justifiably elevated to a Premier Grand Cru Classe in the new St.-Emilion classification thanks to the exceptional efforts of proprietress Christine Valette over the last two decades. The 2005 is one of the monumental wines of the vintage, and may eclipse their prodigious 1990. Inky/blue/purple-colored with an exceptional bouquet of Asian spices, blueberries, blackberries, truffles, cold steel, graphite, and charcoal, it hits the palate with exceptional purity, laser-like precision, a compellingly concentrated, multilayered mouthfeel, a broad, savory texture, terrific acidity, and substantial, but sweet tannins. It lives up to everything it revealed in barrel, and appears set to live for a half century or more. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2050."

99 Points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, Issue #176 April 2008
Well balanced, yet palate-coating; full of plum and dried figs mingled with saddle leather, chestnuts, and white pepper. Finishes with a nice blackberry kick. We recommend pairing this with lamb, burgers, or anything off the grill. Also drinks well on its own.
This is an impressive effort with ample depth and unusually good presence for its level. Worth a look.
